Thanks aplenty to Olivia at Eat to Inspire for nominating me for a Liebster award!
The award is a cool vehicle to spread some food love, let you guys know about awesome blogs that you might not have bumped into yet, and it’s also a fun way to give a window into my world.
The idea is that nominees answer a set of 10 questions, then nominate 8 other blogs that they enjoy, offering their own set of 10 questions to be answered by their nominees.
Read on if you would like to know a little more about me, and discover some juicy blogs to check out!
My Q & A:
What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Pat my kittie! (no that is not a euphemism lol). She often sleeps on my chest ♥
And coffee. Always a cup of plunger coffee. I love Havana’s 5 Star blend – smooth, delicious and it pries my eyes open, without making me feel like I just got my ass kicked by caffeine. It’s my fav.
What would be your ultimate breakfast?
Fluffy vegan pancakes with homemade berry sauce, bananas and maple syrup. YUM. Pancakes were one of my very first vegan cooking experiments!
They are a sweet choice for beginners, I think, because even if you mess up a little, they will still taste good. Such is the Law of Pancakes. There are few sins that cannot be hidden by a few heavy dollops of maple syrup haha :p
Do you have any nicknames?
I go by Lissa, which is short for Melissa. So I’m always in nickname mode, I guess. Sometimes I get Mel or M-Dogg from the friends I have know since way back when.
Which season is your favourite and why?
Summer, hands down. Sunshine, stone fruit, strawberries…yes please! Lettuce exploding in the garden, cocktails on our warm wooden deck, late night light. The way the whole energy of Wellington lifts. I love summer.
If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you take?
Is it sad that my first thought was “phone + solar powered charger”? Yes. Yes it is. Goddamn. Umm… a massive journal, pen and a keg of tamari almonds. And The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, if paper and pen can be smuggled in as one Thing.
What is your favourite thing about yourself?
I am determined to live life on my own terms ♥
Tell me your last dream?
Boringly, I hardly ever remember my dreams.
What is your favourite childhood food memory?
Every Sunday, sitting around my grandparents’ big oval dining table with Nana, Grandad, my family, Aunty, Uncle and cousins, for an amazing roast dinner. These were the carefree days before I became the Weird Goth Vegetarian of our extended clan. Provincial New Zealand = Meat.
What is your favourite food now?
Marinated, pan-fried tofu. We eat this a couple of times a week and it never gets old. My marinade library is sitting at about 20 different recipes – I am obsessed!
My favourite treat food is chocolate Nice Cream, by Tommy & James, which is a coconut cream based dairy free ice cream that is unbelievably creamy, rich and delicious and not filled with unhealthy ingredients; guaranteed orgasm face. It makes me so happy that this is being made in New Zealand. We need more NZ made vegan food awesomeness.
Do you have a favourite mantra?
“Let it go”
